Why Use An Architect

If you are looking to build a new home or renovate your existing home, an Architect should be involved in the project and from the earliest possible stage.
To become a Registered Architect requires a minimum of 5 years at university, followed by an internship of at least 2 years, then a rigorous registration examination and ongoing professional development training.
Successful building and renovating is extremely complex and can be very difficult to achieve. An Architect is the most qualified professional who has the education, training, experience and vision to guide you through the design stage, and construction process. Architects are also the only professionals in the construction industry who are legally and ethically bound to represent you, the home owner.
Architects can assist you in defining your needs and what you want to build.  Importantly, an Architect can present options you might never have considered and help you get the most for your valuable investment.  They don’t just design four walls and a roof; they create total environments that are functional and exciting places in which to live.
Architect-designed houses are more sought after by an increasingly design-savvy market prepared to pay for the benefits and pleasure of living with good design.
Architects services are a wise investment for the money, not an added cost to your project because a well conceived and designed house can be built more efficiently and economically and increase the value of your home.  Architects avoid oversized rooms and wasted space and can help you select materials within your budget and at a fair price.  Architects can reduce building costs, decrease your home’s energy needs, and increase its future resale value through good design.
We decided not to use an architect when looking at carrying out extensive renovations to our house. We were at the building stage when we realised that we didn’t fully understand all of what we were getting and also we were thinking that the design should have been better. Through a recommendation, we contracted Gray to carry out an assessment of our design and to propose changes that would improve on the design.  As the house was under construction, it was important that any changes had minimal impact on work already completed and also on the progression of works.  We instigated all of Gray’s insightful recommendations and are delighted with the end product.  We only wish we had involved Gray from the beginning of the project.

Gray designed extensive restorations and extensions to our terrace house in South Yarra.  Gray was very good at getting us excited about what could be created and the house has turned out even better than we were imagining.  We have been in it for a year now, and it is a dream to live in.  The house also wows guests, which is great.

Gray redesigned my rather ugly 1970's apartment into a very nice apartment.  He was very clever with the use of space and working with the existing structure and style of the apartment.  I have again contracted him, this time to design my new house.
